Discovering Your Purpose in Life

Discovering Your Purpose in Life

What is your purpose in life? This question may not exactly be dinner table conversation — it sounds more like a topic you’d bring up while singing in the car or on a rainy day. Believe it or not, most everyone asks themselves this question now and again. We all want to feel like we’re doing something important and living the lives we were meant to live.

Whether you believe in coincidence or that everything happens for a reason, we all have some desire to belong somewhere — to achieve greatness in some area of our lives.

We’re taught to have our lives planned out when we’re still young, but the truth is that things change and many people are still struggling to figure themselves out in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and even beyond. These things cannot be forced, and when you’re living to fulfil pressure or expectations from others you’re trying to jam that round peg into a square hole. Ultimately, your purpose in life is whatever you decide it is, and it starts with discovering what you love.

Find Your Passion

One of the most exciting parts of life is finding your own personal happiness. When you discover your passion — the one thing (or multiple things) that you feel you’re meant to do — it can give you a new feeling of independence and of personal accomplishment. Embrace your individuality and defend your beliefs, ideas, and decisions. You can make the most of your time in this world by choosing happiness, even in the face of a challenge.

Even if you do know what you love and you’re sitting around thinking it’s impossible to do as a career, it’s probably not. It’s difficult to find your confidence when you’re settling for something you can’t enjoy because it makes more money or because it’s what someone else wants. You have the potential to be happier and more successful if you wake up in the morning looking forward to what’s ahead.

Discover Your Dreams

What would you do with your life if money were no object? Would you travel, get a degree, or start a business? Sometimes a lack of money in the bank can seem to hold us back from fully embracing our passions. There’s a sense of freedom you may find when you let go of these concerns and assume what you desire is possible, even if it doesn’t seem that way at first.

Our thoughts and intentions have amazing creative power. To make something happen, you first have to visualize it and create the intention. Whether you have a million dollars or nothing, it all starts with making a commitment and keeping it at the front of your mind — and through that commitment, you can make it possible. Be as joyful as if you already have what you want and watch things start to fall into place.

Listen to Your Soul

In this world, there’s so much to do and see that it can be hard to find your passion even if you go looking for it. When all else fails, listen to your soul, forgetting about what other people say and what you think you should want. We’ll let you in on a secret. Whatever your deepest desires in life, the real reason we’re all here is to experience love and happiness. The soul inside you knows joy and will tell you when it’s there. If you’re happy, that means you’re doing it right.

It’s hardly ever a perfect or simple path at first — but it is the direction you’re meant to go. There might be ups and downs, but there isn’t a reason to fear failure. Bumps in the road aren’t the end, they are learning experiences that bring you closer to your desires. The moment you find it is the day you can say you know why you’re here. Your dreams become real when you start believing them.
